BP Artist Feature: Noemi Hernandez

I’ve been daydreaming for as long as I can remember about different stories and characters.

Meet the Artist created by Noemi Hernandez

Our childhood passions can certainly be clues for what we’ll migrate to in adulthood. Noemi explains that she always knew she wanted to do something with her stories and characters, but she struggled to put into words what that was and what exactly she wanted to be. Since Noemi was five or six years old, art has consumed her life and never let go. Saturday morning cartoons were magical as she couldn’t think of anything else that would wake her up at 6:00 am in the morning on a weekend!

Through high school, however, Noemi felt burnt out, and despite taking one art class, she felt she had lost inspiration. She decided to let go and hit the reset button, allowing herself to grow into new creations and concludes that “if that’s what they call an artist, then I’m an artist.” When asked if she has an art style, Noemi says no, that what she develops depends on her interest and what’s needed at the time. She summarizes that a compromise between those two is what best defines her art.

Behind the scenes for a Brainstorm Productions shoot

Noemi came to Brainstorm Productions by way of Brainstorm Academy and recalls after attending an event for different schools and programs, “one day my mom and I pull up to Brainstorm Academy.” She explains there weren’t any huge challenges for her because she was happy to have some direction in life.

Director’s Interview with Noemi Hernandez

Brainstorm Productions is Noemi’s first job. Noemi’s gratitude for Brainstorm Productions reveals itself as she shares that finding out she had autism threw her for a loop. Harbor Regional Center referred her based on her wishes that she “find a place that would let me tell stories.”  She shares, “I feel like someone up there was like ‘this girl needs all the help she can get’,” as the opportunity practically fell into her lap. She says the spontaneous idea of opening the Brainstorm Productions studio became a welcome reality as she had no idea what she would do after graduating from the training program and knew that sitting at home stressing about her future wouldn’t be the best option.

We invite you to join us in celebrating Noemi’s artistic imagination and creativity through the included video interview with Noemi as she explains her inspiration for a couple of her characters.
