BP Staff Feature: Bob Harper
Brainstorm Productions is proud and incredibly fortunate to have Bob Harper as our Executive Producer. Over the past two years, Bob has dedicated himself wholeheartedly to the organization, offering treasured mentorship, advocating artist collaboration, and bringing genuine heart to the work of Brainstorm’s neurodiverse adult clients. Under his guidance, these emerging creators are not only developing professional-level projects and telling their stories but also carving their own unique paths into the industry.
Bob’s mission—to make space for creators who don’t always get one—is clear and unwavering. His approach is deeply personal, shaped by two powerful influences: his career and his son.
A Texas native, Bob began his creative journey in the world of independent comics, which opened the door to freelance work and, eventually, a move to Los Angeles. There, he built an impressive two-decade career in animation, collaborating with industry giants like Cartoon Network, Disney TV, and DreamWorks TV. As co-creator of Prank Boy and animator on Foster’s Home for Imaginary Friends, The Ricky Gervais Show, and more, Bob’s work has left a lasting mark on the modern animation landscape.
At home, Bob is a devoted father to his 20-year-old son, Josh, who is on the autism spectrum and nonverbal. His face lights up when he talks about their bond. Though Josh doesn't communicate with words, his vibrant personality shines through in expressive, joyful ways. The two love spending time together watching anime and YouTube animation videos. Josh equally enjoys hanging out with his twin sister, Alexis, and his older sister, Malia, who works at Brainstorm Productions as a soft skills instructor.
“We’re buds,” Bob says with a smile.
Just as he encourages his son to explore, create, and express himself, Bob brings that same spirit to his work at Brainstorm’s Studio. To him, it’s not just about animation; it’s about empowering voices and nurturing vision. The Studio holds a special place in Bob’s heart, and he finds deep fulfillment in witnessing the transformation and growth of the artists he works with.
“It’s a high,” he says, “seeing these creators succeed.”
Most recently, Bob has championed Dreams, a powerful film anthology featuring short, animated works by nine Studio animators, each offering an authentic perspective shaped by their unique imaginations. Debuting in Torrance, California on April 9, 2025, to honor Autism Acceptance Month, the project was a heartfelt showcase of neurodiverse creativity and collaboration. Since then, Dreams has been honored as an “Award Winner” at the Champion Film Salon International Film Festival in Frisco, Texas. It was also announced as an official selection for the Pineapple Animation Festival, set to take place in August 2026 in Marbella, Spain. The growing recognition of Dreams is a testament to Bob’s mission to uplift underrepresented voices and create meaningful space for them in the industry.
